A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has said those who annulled the June 12, 1993, general elections are gearing up again to go against the 2027 general election.

In a post on Facebook, Igbokwe recalled that the Yoruba ethnic group suffered losses as a result of the annulment, while the perpetrators were never arrested.

He, however, stated that never again will such ever happen, emphasising that no section of the country has the monopoly of violence.

Igbokwe wrote, "The June 12 1993, Presidential Elections were free and fair but a section of the country conspired and annulled the elections. The winner, Chief MKO Abiola, was killed. His wife, Kudirat Abiola, was also killed. Some prominent Yoruba leaders were also killed. Southern Nigeria felt humiliated. MKO Abiola's huge business empire was crushed beyond recognition. Today I do not know if any of the businesses still exist. We know those who committed the heinous crime. 33 years after, nobody was arrested, nobody was found guilty and nobody was jailed. South West endured this humiliation for the sake of peace in Nigeria. We all moved on. But we said Never Again!!!

"Another symbolic election is coming up next year and those with deep sense of history know that some desperate people who did the havoc in the 1990s are gearing up again. This time we will not take it. We will defend our mandate, we will fight back, we will roar like a lion and we will defend ourselves. May no Nigerian East, West, North or South take this for granted. . NEVER AGAIN in the history of the Country. It is no longer acceptable. Let us put on our thinking caps and do the needful . A word is enough for the wise. Nobody, no tribe, so section of this country has a monopoly of violence. It is in everybody’s DNA. I can hear some hediots making provocative comments as if Nigeria is owned by their father. May thunder fire the devil a trillion times. Ndi ara akwu eke."
