14 new coronavirus cases take Nigeria's toll to 65

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Nigeria has now risen from 51 to 65.

This is the highest surge of coronavirus cases recorded in a single day by the West African nation.

Out of the 14, 12 new cases were confirmed in Lagos, with two in Abuja.

"Of the 14, 6 were detected on a vessel, 3 are returning travellers into Nigeria & 1 is a close contact of a confirmed case," a statement from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control read.

A breakdown of cases by states is listed thus:

Lagos- 44 FCT- 12 Ogun- 3 Ekiti- 1 Oyo- 1 Edo- 1 Bauchi-1 Osun-1 Rivers-1

Total: 65 confirmed cases
