Omah Lay's paternal grandfather was the drummer for Celestine Ukwu, a well-known Highlife group. Thus, Omah Lay's parents weren't shocked when their son chose to follow his musical career.

2020 saw the official and complete launch of Omah Lay's music career with the release of his debut EP, Get Layed, which featured the popular song "You" and the breakout single "Bad Influence."

When he appeared on Olamide's Infinity song from his Carpe Diem album, his name became more well-known. The song's lyrics, which discussed loving till the end of time, were quite moving. When the song was first released, it reached the top of the Nigerian Apple Music Charts.
