Genevieve Nnaji is a Nigerian actress, director, and producer born on May 3, 1979 in Mbaise, Imo State. Genevieve spent her childhood in Lagos. She was raised in a middle-class family; her mother taught nursery school and her father was an engineer. Genevieve was the fourth of eight children. Prior to enrolling at the University of Lagos, where she earned a bachelor's degree in creative arts, she attended Methodist Girls College in Yaba, Lagos. She started going to Nollywood auditions when she was still a student.

At the age of eight, Genevieve began her acting career as a child performer in the then-popular television serial opera Ripples. With the release of the film Most Wanted in 1998, she made her screen debut at the age of 19. Mark of the Beast, Ijele, and Last Party are some of her later movies. She acted in the critically acclaimed movie Ijé: The Journey in 2010. She has acted in more than 200 Nollywood productions.

Nnaji acquired a record deal with the Ghanaian label EKB Records in 2004 and put out her debut album, One Logologo Line. R&B, hip-hop, and urban music are all mixed together. After competing against other celebrities to become the 2004 Lux face, Genevieve Nnaji received the most votes. She became the first actress to receive the Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2005.

Genevieve Nnaji who is not married is currently a single mother and grandma. The name of her daughter is Chemebuka Theodora and she is affectionately known as Dora. Genevieve has been recognized for her performance with a number of honours and nominations, including the 2001 City People Awards' Best Actress of the Year Award and the 2005 Africa Movie Academy Awards' Best Actress in a Leading Role Award. The Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee (NOSC) chose her movie Lionheart in 2019 to represent Nigeria in the Best International Feature Film category of the 2020 Oscars. It was the first Nigerian film ever to be submitted to the Oscars.
