Born on September 1, 1993, in Haarlem, Netherlands, William Paul Troost-Ekong is a Nigerian professional footballer known for his commanding presence as a central defender. Raised in the Netherlands, Troost-Ekong's journey in football began with youth spells at clubs like Groningen and Dordrecht.

Troost-Ekong's connection to his Nigerian roots led him to decide to represent Nigeria internationally. He made his debut for the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, in 2015. His inclusion in the squad marked the beginning of a solid defensive partnership that would make him a mainstay in the national team's backline.
