Spain and Sevilla striker Isaac Romero has made a huge promise to Super Eagles forward Akor Adams ahead of the AFCON 2025 tournament, Soccernet.ng reports.

Adams made his debut for the Nigerian Football team last month against Lesotho, finding the back of the net 17 minutes later.

The 25-year-old has scored two goals in the league this season, all off the bench because Romero is Matias Almeyda’s first choice.

Adams also scored in Nigeria’s 4-1 win against Gabon in the World Cup play-off, and scored from twelve yards against DR Congo in the penalty shoot-out, but it wasn’t enough as Eric Chelle’s men were knocked out.

While there’s a healthy tussle between both strikers for playing time at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, the Spanish striker mentioned he has a great relationship with Akor Adams.

The 25-year-old also promised to hold the goalscoring forte down for Akor, should he make Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 squad.

“He is a great person, we’re very close,” the left-footed striker said in quotes revealed by Sevilla’s official website.

“We help each other and compete with each other and try to make the best goals possible to help the team and work to make it so.

“I always wish Akor the best [for the AFCON 2025 tournament]. It would be a shame if he’s away for so long because I would be left alone, but I will try to keep working and be there for the team and help in everything I can.”

Regarding his goal-scoring numbers, the Sevilla striker is looking to improve in every way possible.

“I try to make every goal possible, it’s what they ask me, in addition to working and sacrificing for the team.

“I work every day to improve my finishing, and every day I feel better. I will try to help with goals. This year, I already have three goals, and I am happy with that.

“I have always been clear that I want to stay here and that I have a lot to give to this club, and I still have things to give and many dreams to fulfil this shirt and help the club to return to where it has to be,” he concluded.

Since Eric Chelle took over as Nigeria’s coach in January, he summoned Cyriel Dessers and Tolu Arokodare as substitutes to compete for playing time with Victor Osimhen.

While the pair found the back of the net on different occasions, it appears they’ve fallen down the pecking order in the Super Eagles attack.

Adams made his debut for Nigeria against Lesotho last month and has found the back of the net twice, equalling Arokodare’s numbers in fewer games.

Away from the numbers, the former Montpellier forward combines well with Osimhen in Nigeria’s frontline, and they work better off each other than any combination on the Super Eagles bench.

Bar any injuries, Akor Adams should be playing for Nigeria in Morocco next month.
