Cristiano Ronaldo’s trademark free kick hits post in unlucky evening for Al Nassr star

Cristiano Ronaldo had a game to forget on Thursday, March 7, as Al-Nassr succumbed to a shock 3-1 defeat at home to Al-Raed.

The Portuguese superstar saw two of his efforts hit the post in both halves, including a trademark free kick that was just inches too high.

This was Ronaldo’s first game since getting slapped with a one-game domestic ban for an obscene gesture towards Al-Shabab fans.

Despite his best efforts, he could not inspire his side to a win as Al Nassr’s title hopes continued to dwindle.

Al Raed took the lead early on, with El Berkaoui finding the net in the 18th minute, but Al-Nassr quickly equalized through Ayman Yahya.

Yahya’s goal came from Cristiano Ronaldo, who watched his powerful volley from a cross hit the crossbar only to fall kindly for his teammate to slot home, as reported by Daily Sports.

Al Raed, however, got back their lead in the 46th minute through striker Mohammed Fuzair and despite the home side dominating possession, they were hit with a sucker punch late on as midfielder Amir Sayoud found the visitors’ third goal.

For Ronaldo, it was another frustrating game, which was summed up by his reaction when his near-perfect free-kick rattled the post.

The former Real Madrid man raised his head to the sky in disbelief, presumably coming to terms with the fact that he missed a chance to get his team back in the game.

To be fair to Ronaldo, his performance was decent, but he was at times let down by his team’s defending.

At some point during the game, Ronaldo was seen reprimanding his teammates in despair as they rushed back to restart play after conceding a goal.

What next for Al Nassr?

Defeat to Al-Raed means Ronaldo and his wads are now three games without a win.

In the league, they sit nine points behind Al Hilal, who have a game in hand.

Their next game is a reverse fixture in the AFC Champions League against Al Ain on March 11, according to GOAL.
