Victor Osimhen: Super Eagles forward gets Serie A recognition ahead of AFCON

Victor Osimhen’s form since his transfer to Italian Serie A club Napoli has indeed been nothing short of enviable.

Despite the plethora of injuries the Nigerian has been faced with, the former Lille forward has not failed to live up to the billing whenever he laces his boot for the Neopolitans.

The Super Eagles forward recently led the Naples-based club to their first Scudetto title since 1990 after scoring a staggering 26 goals Napoli under the management of Luciano Spalletii as they coasted to glory.

The stellar showing by Osimhen translated to his nomination and seemingly winning a flurry of awards.

The Nigerian forward has since clinched the award for the best forward of the Italian league, Italian Serie A footballer of the year and more recently, the African Player of the Year award, as reported by GOAL.

However, as the anticipation for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast builds up, the Nigerian talisman has received yet another notable recognition for his stellar achievements.

Osimhen receives Serie A recognition

The 25-year-old forward has been named alongside teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez in the Serie A team of 2023 by football statistic outlet Whoscored.

The Nigerian forward was also one of the highest-rated players on the list released by the outlet.


Osimhen, who indeed had himself a 2023 to remember, will hope to replicate such through 2024 as he prepares for the significant challenge on the horizon, the AFCON.

The marquee forward is expected to team up with Jose Peseiro’s team in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ahead of the competition showdown in Ivory Coast.
