Newcastle has joined the race to sign Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface, according to multiple reports.

The 22-year-old who joined Bayer Leverkusen has been in fine form for the German side - banging in seven goals in seven games.

He has become one of the most dreaded strikers in the league and has picked up a number of awards including the league’s Player of The Month and Rookie of The Month awards for August, while also earning nominations for best player of the month in September.

According to a British tabloid, SunSport, the Toon Army sent scouts to watch Boniface play in Portugal for the Super Eagles against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique during the last international break.

Though he didn’t score, he was a handful against the Saudis, causing problems in their backline, and forcing an own-goal.

“Eddie Howe has been keeping close tabs on the striker, who joined Bayer from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise for 12 million in the summer,” the publication wrote.

“The St. James’ Park chief is keen on adding some physicality to his frontline and sees Boniface as a top target who would complement the likes of Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.”

Newcastle are eight in the Premier League after eight games.

The Punch reports that Real Madrid and Liverpool have reportedly indicated their interest in the youngster.
