Chelsea put an end to a long wait and officially confirmed their new manager, Mauricio Pochettino, ending weeks of speculation over their man for next season.
The Argentine will formally take charge on July 1 but will offer valuable inputs into player sales and recruitment when the market opens on June 14.
He will take over after a grossly underwhelming season in which the Blues had four managers oversee at least a game and still finished 12th in the Premier League - their worst result since 1988.
Pochettino will also take on a bloated squad with over 30 first-team stars, after the club spent over £600 million on 16 new players with no significant impact.
Todd Boehly and his cohorts appeared to have learned a vital lesson from their appointment of Graham Potter, whom they handed a five-year contract last year.
Pochettino will not be on a longer term. As confirmed by Chelsea’s official statement, he signed a two-year contract which includes an option of another year by the club.
According to Goal, the club only paid £13 mil as compensation to Potter, even though he could have earned over £50 mil if he had insisted on the entire length of his contract payout.
Boehly admitted to making mistakes in his first year as part-owner, and insider sources claimed he regretted sacking Thomas Tuchel, ruling it a decision made too early.
Pochettino will be joined by Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and Sebastiano Pochettino as backroom staff at Stamford Bridge heading into next season.
