We suffered against ASEC Mimosas - Eguma

Rivers United Head Coach Stanley Eguma has congratulated his charges for their remarkable victory over Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas in the CAF Confederations Cup on Sunday, February 19.

The pride of Rivers secured an impressive 3-0 win over the former champions in their second group match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Malachi Ohawume and Williams Ukeme grabbed the two goals in the first half and Denis Ndasi added another in the second 45 to seal a convincing win for the NPFL champions.

Despite their remarkable victory, Rivers gaffer Stanley Eguma insists his side suffered against the Ivorian side.

“It was a good game, the opponents gave us a good game, Eguma noted in a post-match interview.

“We knew ASEC are former Champions of this competition and they were always going to be a very tough opponent.”

“They had good spells during the game, even when we scored, they took the ball and played their compact game.”

“But we were able to tame them in the second half and score the other goals. We only care about the goals anyway and not just trying to play to the gallery.”

The win was Rivers United's first win after two games and they will take on Congolese side Motemba Pembe in their next encounter.
