'He seems like a different player' - Defoe lauds Iwobi despite defeat against Leicester

Former Tottenham Hotspurs striker Jermain Defoe has commended Everton's midfielder Alex Iwobi for his brilliant performance against Leicester City on Saturday, November 5.

The Toffees lost 2-0 to the Foxes at Goodison Park in the Premier League as Everton recorded their 6th defeat of the season.

Youri Tielemans scored on the stroke of halftime to give Brendan Rodger's side the lead before the break before Harvey Branes added a second in the 86th minute as Leicester bounced back from their defeat against City a week earlier.

Despite a disappointing team performance from Frank Lampard's side, the former England international, Defoe highlighted the qualities of the Nigerian international.

“They have a top goalkeeper [Jordan Pickford], Calvert-Lewin coming back, and then there is Iwobi,” Defoe said.

“He seems like a different player. He plays in that position, that number ten, where he can play more off-the-cuff. Not focusing too much tactically on the other side of the game, and that has helped him.”

The 26-year-old has so far managed 1 goal and 6 assists in 13 Premier League matches, only Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne has more assists than the Super Eagle.

Everton will look to bounce back to winning ways when they face Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in their next PL fixture on Saturday, November 12.
