Former Nigeria coach, Sunday Oliseh, has hailed Chelsea’s defeat of Manchester City in Saturday’s 2020/2021 Champions League final in Porto as a well deserved victory, and also admires the contributions of his favourite players – N’golo Kante and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to the Blues’ glory, Completesports.com reports.

Chelsea lifted their second Champions League title in history after pipping City 1-0 in an all-English final at the Estadio do Dragao through Kai Havertz 42nd goal assisted by Mason Mount.

Oliseh who tweeted during and after the match submitted that the better team on the night won fair and square. And he celebrated his favourite players – France midfielder Kante and Senegal goalkeeper, Mendy, for punching their weight well to help Chelsea win. Mendy has thus become the first African goalkeeper to win the UEFA Champions League.

“Chelsea extremely deserved to win the CL in my opinion. Especially pleased for my favourite defensive midfielder and goalkeeper of the season. N’golo Kante has now won it all: Premier League, Champions League and The world cup. He ran over 12kms in 90mins today!! Incroyables ” the former RCS Vervietois and Fortuna Sittard coach tweeted on his Twitter handle.

Oliseh was earlier animated after watching Pep Guardiola play the first half of the match with a bizarre starting team. The Spanish decided to start without a central striker and his known reliable midfielders. Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho got second half sub roles. Defensive midfielder, Rodri, who had been City’s linchpin alongside Fernandinho in the campaign, sat out the entire game.

A bemused Oliseh tweeted at half-time: “I am shocked how Man. City can show up for a Champions League Final without a natural defensive midfielder and a striker!! Chelsea i feel could easily well-deserved 3-0 up in my opinion. Curious tosee what 2nd half awaits us.Astonished face.”
