Coronavirus: Champions League, Europa League games to be played behind closed doors - UEFA

UEFA has said that two matches of the Champions League and Europa League holding next week will be played behind closed doors as a precautionary measure against Coronavirus.

The clash in the Round of 16 of the Champions League which will be played behind closed doors is the game between Valencia and Atalanta in Spain. Inter Milan will also have their Europa League home game against Getafe played behind closed doors in Italy.

Atalanta and Inter Milan are clubs in Northern Italy which is currently witnessing cases of Coronavirus.

A statement on UEFA' website reads: “Following decisions taken by the relevant authorities in Italy and Spain respectively, and related to measures regarding the COVID-19 virus, the following upcoming UEFA club competition matches will go ahead next week as scheduled, but will be played behind closed doors:

“Champions League last 16 second leg between Valencia and Atalanta.

“Europa League last 16 first-leg between Inter Milan and Getafe.

“The Youth League games for next week in Italy will also be played behind closed doors.

“Further update regarding our other competition games will be published on UEFA’s official website in due course".
