Jordi Alba has joined Lionel Messi in calling out Eric Abidal after he questioned the performance of Barcelona players.

Abidal, the club's sporting director, had stated that the players failed to work hard enough under former manager Ernesto Valverde which led to his sacking.

He told Spanish media outlet Diario Sport:

"Many players weren't satisfied or working hard and there was also an internal communication problem,'' the 40-year-old former defender said.

"The relationship between the coach and the dressing room has always been good but there are things as an ex-player that I could smell.

This didn't sit well with Lionel Messi who fired back at the Frenchman and former Barcelona defender.

"When you talk about players, you have to give names because if not, it gives air to things which are not true."

"Sincerely, I don't like to do these things but I think that people have to be responsible for their jobs and own their decisions", Messi said.

Jordi Alba has now sided with Messi in calling out Abidal over his comment on the club's players.

"This club gets enough sh*t thrown at it from the outside so we shouldn't be throwing sh*t at ourselves," Alba told reporters.

"Abidal was a player, he is loved by the fans and that's why he should know what it's like inside the dressing room and how players feel."
