Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder, Enock Nwepu has been forced into early retirement due to a hereditary heart condition.
The Premier League club made this shocking announcement via its official Twitter handle on Monday, October 10.
In a statement, the club highlighted the risk involved if the 24-year-old continues playing professional football, which includes a potential cardiac arrest.
The statement reads: "Enock Mwepu has been forced to end his playing career following the diagnosis of a hereditary heart condition. The condition, which can worsen over time, would put Enock at an extremely high risk of suffering a potentially fatal cardiac event, if he were to continue playing competitive football."
The Zambian international joined Brighton from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2021 signing a four-year contract with the club.
