The Atlas Lions made history on Tuesday, December 6 after edging Spain in the round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Morocco became the fourth African team to reach the quarterfinals of the World Cup after Cameroon (1990), Senegal (2002) and Ghana (2010).

The North Africans beat Spain 3-0 in the shootouts at the Education City Stadium in what was a keenly contested game between two neighbours.

Goalkeeper, Bono who plies his trade for Sevilla in the Spanish La Liga saved two penalties from Carlos Soler and Spain captain Sergio Busquets to cement Morocco's place in the last-8.

Speaking in a post-match reaction, Bono noted that his team had a bit of luck which caused them to triumph over the 2010 champions.

"You know penalties, it's a little bit of intuition, a little bit of luck," Bounou told beIN Sports.

"We won, that's the most important thing. Hats off to the whole team, they did the job, it was incredible.

"It's not easy to stay focused for 120 minutes, against a Spanish team that dominates the ball well, who has possession.

"When you live moments like this, sometimes it's hard to realise it. We will try to avoid the noise around us, stay focused on ourselves, on our job, our recovery."

Morocco will lock horns with Portugal for a place in the semis on Saturday, December 10.
