World Cup: Oliseh tips two African teams to excel in Qatar

Sunday Oliseh Sunday Oliseh

Former Super Eagles defender and coach Sunday Oliseh has tipped African champions Senegal and Morocco to go far at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

African champions, Senegal couldn't set a good tone for the other African teams in the competition as they lost by two late goals to the Netherlands on Monday, November 21.

Tunisia will be the second African team to feature in Qatar as they begin their campaign today (Tuesday, November 22) against Denmark.

North African side Morocco will begin also begin their campaign on Wednesday against Croatia in Group F.

Ghana and Cameroon will complete the first round of matches for the African sides on Thursday, November 24 against Portugal and Switzerland respectively.

Sharing his thoughts on the African teams at the World Cup, Oliseh tipped Senegal and Morocco to make the continent proud.

“I watched the African teams and I’m impressed with what I saw. I think we have two solid teams. The five of them are solid and this is the first all five teams are going to the World Cup with African handlers. It is a landmark.

“However, two of them on paper, and what I have seen stand out, and that is Senegal and Morocco. Now, which of the teams will be able to apply the Enhanced Football Intelligence (EFI) metrics, and a solid game plan and be able to move to the next level and surprise the world, I see Senegal.

“They are a solid team. Morocco is not playing African football again, they are not playing Arab football or European football, they are playing a mix of all, so it’s going to be interesting. So, let’s see if they can keep up the pressure.”

Oliseh is currently in Qatar serving as part of FIFA's Technical Experts for the global showpiece.
