World champion Argentina together with its South American neighbours Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay officially submitted a joint bid to host the 2030 edition of the Mundial on Tuesday, February 7.

At a ceremony held at the Argentina Football Federation in Buenos Aires, the four South American countries called for football to return home to where it began nearly a century ago at the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo in 1930 when the first World Cup match took place.

President of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), Alejandro Dominguez urged FIFA to allow the region to host the rest of the World in 2030 exactly 100 years since the first World Cup tournament took place as a gesture of greatness.

“The 2030 World Cup is not just another World Cup, it deserves a celebration with recognition for 100 years,” he said.

“We are convinced that FIFA has an obligation to honour the memory of those who came before us and believed in greatness and made the first World Cup.”

It will be the first time in history four nations will be hosting the tournament if the bid is approved by the football governing body.
