Watford have confirmed that Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong will be side lined for at least two weeks.

Ekong injured his hamstring during the international break and was forced to return to England ahead of schedule.

The club in a statement revealed that the 28-year-old is expected to return to first-team action in mid-October.

“William Troost-Ekong was forced off the pitch with a hamstring injury whilst representing Nigeria last week and is aiming for a mid-October return,” the club said in a statement.

The injury is a big blow to the defender who is trying to fight his way back to the Hornets starting eleven.

The Nigerian CB was relegated to the bench by former coach Rob Edwards and has only managed two appearances overall in the EFL Championship, accumulating 97 minutes of playing time.

However, with a new coach on board, Ekong will be aiming to make an impression when he returns.
