Wilfred Ndidi: Why Super Eagles captain pulled out of Russia friendly

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revealed why Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi will not be involved in the upcoming friendly against Russia on.

According to reports, the 29-year-old sustained a knock after the Super Eagles Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

Despite being named in the initial squad to feature in the AFCON qualifiers and the Russia international friendly, the former Leicester City midfielder was forced to drop out of the friendly.

The NFF in a statement via its website wrote, "Captain Wilfred Ndidi was knocked out by a small knock sustained during last week’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Guinea-Bissau."

The statement also shed light on why Onyedika was also left out of the squad for the friendly, "Raphael Onyedika was stopped from travelling to Russia by his German club, Eintracht Frankfurt"

Wilfred Ndidi has since returned to his club base in Turkey leaving Eric Chelle with 18 players available for selection.

Russia will welcome Nigeria at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Tuesday, October 6.
