'Why Super Eagles don't play well at home' - Leon Balogun

Experienced defender Leon Balogun has revealed the reasons behind recent Super Eagles underwhelming performances at home.

The Rangers defender poor pitches and lack of other basic materials is responsible for the team’s poor showings.

Balogun made this disclosure while speaking with The Beautiful Game Podcast on Tuesday.

He said, “You hear about other players and why can’t they perform in the Super Eagles. We have to be honest, the infrastructure, we are not being provided with the best minerals to do our job. It starts with pitches or it starts with accommodation but it goes on to pitches and all these kinds of things."

Balogun added that the country will struggle to produce top talents if the necessary infrastructures are not put in place.

“If you say you want to see the next Messi coming out of Nigeria or the next Cristiano Ronaldo or whatsoever if you want to see us so then you need to make sure that back home in Nigeria we have the best possibilities,” he continued.

Balogun made his debut for Nigeria against Mexico in 2014 and has featured in 32 games for West African giants to date.

He’s a member of the Super Eagles squad to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2019 African Cup of Nations.
