Victor Osimhen has backed Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro to lead Nigeria at the 2023 Nations Cup in Ivory Coast.

The future of the Portuguese gaffer remains uncertain after his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) expired last month.

However, earlier reports indicated that the NFF is looking to extend the contract of the former Sporting Lisbon manager by another year which will see him remain in charge of the team for next year's AFCON in January.

Peseiro was appointed by the ex-NFF chief, Amaju Pinnick in 2022 following the resignation of Augustine Eguavoen as caretaker manager of the Super Eagles.

Sharing his thoughts on Jose Peseiro's future, the 24-year-old Napoli striker believes the former Real Madrid assistant coach is tactically sound to lead the three-time African champions at the AFCON.

“The coach is tactically sound and he is in control of the Super Eagles squad, which is very, very important,” Osimhen told Wazobia FM Radio Lagos as quoted by

“He knows what he wants,” he added.

Victor Osimhen has scored 7 goals for the Super Eagles under Jose Peseiro.
