Bayern Munich's attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala has admitted to the tough decision he had to make by representing the German national team at the international level.

Regarded as one of the fastest-rising talents in world football, Jamal Musiala was born in Stuttgart, Germany to a Yoruba father and a Polish-German mother before moving to the UK with his family at age 7.

While in England, the 20-year-old joined the Chelsea academy where he spent most of his youth career before joining the Bundesliga title holders at age 16.

The high-flying midfielder was eligible to represent Nigeria, England and Germany on the international stage but opted for the four-time world champions.

Explaining why he chose to represent the Die Mannschaft ahead of the Super Eagles and the Three Lions, the attacking midfielder explained that he wanted to represent the country of his birth.

“I’d had a tough choice to make. I regularly chatted to the people at the FA and the DFB, Musiala said as quoted by Vanguard.

“They both made it clear that they wanted me to play for them. It was a difficult decision, as I was born in Germany but most of my memories growing up are in England – both are a part of me. It was an incredible feeling to get my first Germany cap.

“It felt right pulling that shirt on and representing my birth nation. I knew that I’d made the right decision.

Musiala has so far won 20 caps for the German national team since making his debut in March 2021 against Iceland in a World Cup qualifier.
