Victor Osimhen continues to make headlines in the transfer market, with several reports linking the Super Eagles striker with moves to some of the elite clubs in European football.
Despite joining Galatasaray just last summer, the 27-year-old has attracted interest from clubs in the Premier League and Spanish La Liga.
One of the clubs rumoured to be interested in signing the Nigerian international is Spanish champions Barcelona.
The Catalans are currently in the market for a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
The veteran Polish striker has joined Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer (MLS) following the expiration of his contract with Barcelona at the end of last season.
The Blaugrana have identified Argentine international Julian Alvarez as their preferred target for the vacant No. 9 role left by the Polish striker.
However, La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid have declared their intention to keep the player and have refused to engage Barcelona in any form of negotiation.
Atleti's resolve has compelled Barça to consider other options for the attacking role heading into next season, with Osimhen's name emerging among the potential targets for Hansi Flick.
Popular Barcelona news account on X, @BarcaUniversal, has highlighted five key reasons why Osimhen could be a good option for the Spanish champions ahead of Julian Alvarez.
Let's take a look at these five key reasons below:
1. Better goalscorer
Statistically, Victor Osimhen is a better goalscorer than Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez. Osimhen has scored 59 goals in 74 matches over the last two seasons, compared with Julian's 49 goals in 106 matches.
2. Better fit
Unlike Alvarez, Osimhen may not be as comfortable with the ball at his feet and is not your typical ball-playing centre-forward. However, the former Napoli striker offers different options, such as making runs in behind the defence, where he can be picked out by passes from the likes of Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo.
3. More accessible transfer
While Atletico Madrid continue to refuse to negotiate for Julian Alvarez, reports suggest Galatasaray would be willing to discuss a move for Osimhen for a fee starting at €130 million.
4. Natural No. 9 and aerial threat
While Alvarez is not a typical centre-forward and may not provide the same aerial presence, Osimhen can give Barça a dominant target for crosses and set pieces, adding another dimension to their attack.
5. Stronger physical presence
Victor Osimhen offers pace, height and strength. He is aggressive when pressing and can help the team compete against deeper, more physical defences. These are qualities that could give Barcelona a different dimension compared with Julian Alvarez.
It remains to be seen how things will unfold in the coming days, and whether Barcelona will succeed in their pursuit of Alvarez or consider backup options such as Osimhen and Lautaro Martinez.
