'Where was VAR' — Ghana fans blast FIFA for defeat against Portugal

Incensed by some refereeing decisions in their World Cup opener against Portugal on Thursday, November 24, fans of Ghana Black Stars have slammed FIFA over poor officiating.

Supporters of the four-time African champions were left disappointed by some calls made by the centre referee Ismail Elfath that resulted in their 3-2 defeat to the Selecao at the 974 Stadium in Doha.

The Black Stars fans were fuming over the referee's decision not to review Salisu's challenge on Ronaldo that resulted in Portugal's first goal.

Some fans also believe Raphael Leoa was in an offside position in the build-up to Portugal's third goal.

Despite the defeat, some Ghanaians and African fans at large hailed the Black Stars for their spirited performance against a strong Portuguese side, while blaming the football governing body for discrimination against the African teams.

_A Facebook user, Yaw Preko wrote, “You organised the tournament for yourselves. Africa was only invited to make up the numbers. Where was VAR in the Ghana vrs Portugal match?”

_“you guys robbed us. You guys failed the fair play rule. You guys failed to accept our petition to check the VAR and call the offsides. This is wrong this is not fair to Ghana” Yinks wrote.

_Mac Kofi said, “Why did VAR disappear in This match? Or Africa doesn't deserve VAR?”

_Ken Munguti added, “The referee was very biased....”

_Ma Liv said, “In my opinion there wasn't enough physical contact to be a penalty but more exaggeration..????????”

_Itz Gift Sureking wrote, “FIFA is just robbing Africa , every World Cup, I hate FIFA”

_“am telling you, Portugal didn't deserve that penalty ????, Jedidah NJ said in response to Itz Gift Sureking.”

Ghana will take on South Korea and Uruguay in their last two group matches.
