Finidi George has revealed that his relationship with Emmanuel Amunike remains strong, despite both being contenders for the Super Eagles role.

In an exclusive interview with Arise TV, the 53-year-old discussed his friendship with his former Super Eagles teammate, who will serve as his assistant in his new position.

Finidi also confirmed that he personally selected his backroom staff, dispelling any notion of imposition by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)

"He is a very good friend of mine; we talk every now and then. He is one of my closest friends despite the fact that we were in that tussle for who would be the head coach of the Super Eagles. That will not end our relationship at this point in time," Finidi stated.

"We are quite comfortable; we speak every now and then. We have come a long way. My relationship with him is very sound and very okay."

As Finidi George prepares for his first major challenge, he is set to unveil his preliminary 35-man squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa and Benin Republic.

Nigeria will kick off their campaign against Bafana Bafana at the Uyo Stadium on June 7 before traveling to Ivory Coast to face Benin three days later.
