Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen has said Nigeria are title contenders ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire.

The team last won the tournament in 2013 under the late Steven Keshi but has failed to make the final since then, exiting in the Round of 16 in the 2022 edition.

The victory in 2013 was the third continental title for the West African country.

According to All Africa, Osimhen, recently crowned as the 2023 Africa Player of the Year, is confident the Super Eagles are raring to go and have the capacity to defeat other top teams to the AFCON title.

"We are ready and preparing very well. The squad is in high spirits. We are raring to go and hope that we shall do well there."

Nigeria has been drawn in Group A with hosts Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has backed Osimhen’s claims by also stating Nigeria is among the favourites for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Daily Post reports.

After listing the likes of Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast, he believes his team comes next in line to fight for the title due to the quality of the players in his team.
