WATCH: Chaotic scenes as Barca players clash with Espanyol fans after La Liga triumph

Following their La Liga triumph, celebrations on the pitch by Barcelona players were cut short after Espanyol fans invaded the pitch to attack the players.

The newly crowned champions encircled the centre of the pitch to celebrate at the RCDE Stadium after their crowning moment much to the dismay of the rival fans.

Celebrations had to be put on hold and moved to the dressing room after fans of the home team rushed onto the pitch throwing chairs, bottles and other items they could lay hold of.

A video shared by ESPN via its Twitter handle shows some Barcelona players notably, captain Sergio Busquets, Ferran Torres, and Marcos Alonso in a scuffle with some Espanyol fans as they chased the Blaugranas down the tunnel.

The Blaugranas clinched their 27th La Liga title with a dominant display over their city rivals with a 4-2 victory courtesy of goals from Robert Lewandoski, Alejandro Balde, and Joules Kounde.

It was the first La Liga title under Xavi Hernandez and the club's first league title since the departure of Lionel Messi in August 2021.
