Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka grabbed a brace as England thumped Iran 6-2 in their opening game at the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the Khalifa International Stadium.

The Three Lions went into the halftime break with a three-goal lead courtesy of goals from Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling.

The 21-year-old winger of Nigerian descent added the fourth after Sterling turned provider in the 62nd minute.

Mehdi Taremi pulled a goal back for Iran three minutes later before Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish added two more goals for Gareth Southgate's side.

Taremi would later score from the spot deep into stoppage time to make it 6-2 in favour of England who got their campaign off to a blistering start.

African champions Senegal will take on the Netherlands in Group A in the next game before the United States take on Wales in the last game of the day.
