Former Nigerian goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has set the record straight on accusations that he cursed the Super Eagles after he left the team.

Enyeama, 41, is arguably the best goalkeeper in the history of Nigerian football. In fact, a recent report by the IFFHS ranked the former Enyimba shot stopper as Africa's greatest goalkeeper of all-time.

Since his departure from the national team in 2015 after falling out with then Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh, Nigeria have struggle to produce another goalkeeper of his pedigree.

The likes of Francis Uzoho, Maduka Okoye among others have all failed to meet the standard set by the ex-Lille shot stopper until Stanley Nwabali showed up with an impressive performance at the just ended African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Chippa United goalkeeper has become a beacon of hope as he made history by becoming the first Nigerian goalkeeper to keep four clean sheets in a single Nations Cup tournament.

Speaking on Nwabali's remarkable performance in Cote d'Ivoire, Enyeama noted that the 27-year-old silenced critics who attributed the team's goalkeeping misfortunes to him.

“I received a lot of nasty messages accusing me of all sorts, but thankfully, Stanley came in and helped change that narrative by breaking through the ranks. I didn’t curse the national team; if I had the power to do that, I could have currently changed the economic fortunes of Nigeria,” Enyeama noted, as reported by Afrik Foot Nigeria.
