Super Eagles legend Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has issued a stark warning about Turkish football — one that Victor Osimhen might want to heed amid swirling transfer speculation, Afrik-Foot reports.

​Osimhen joined Galatasaray from Napoli last year for a Turkish-record €75 million, and the Super Eagles striker has delivered. Last season, he spearheaded their charge to a record-equaling fourth Süper Lig title, racking up 22 goals and eight assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.

His brilliance has kept him linked with elite European clubs, with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Arsenal all reportedly in the mix. Although Galatasaray remain adamant they are unwilling to part ways with their marquee star and Osimhen has expressed contentment with life in Istanbul, the final two weeks of the transfer window leave the door open for a massive bid.

​However, the Nigerian striker must tread carefully with his next career move. Turning 28 in December, his peak years are fast approaching their twilight, and many still believe he belongs at one of Europe’s traditional powerhouses.

“You must love football to play in Turkey,” Okocha said. “The fans are crazy; the experience is priceless. All you see is the love because they take you in as one of their own.”

​Co-host Mikel Obi interjected: “Only when it’s going well, though. When it’s not, you’d better leave. It is pure hell.”

​Okocha agreed, recounting advice he previously gave to José Mourinho:

“When Mourinho took over at Fenerbahçe, I sent him a text saying, ‘Boss, be careful.’ When he said things like, ‘Your shirt is my skin, I love you guys,’ I told him: ‘Only when it’s going well. When it’s not, they switch. You’ll be left wondering, Are these the same people?’

“And that’s exactly what happens. When things go wrong, they visit your home, asking, ‘Are you not happy here?’ and throwing stones at your windows. I once saw the president of Fenerbahçe rip up a player’s contract right in front of him because the team was underperforming, saying, ‘Go to FIFA, our file is already full.’ So, you’d better leave.”
