Former Nigerian international Victor Ikpeba has named Finidi George as his preferred candidate for the vacant Super Eagles job.

The Enyimba FC gaffer is currently serving as the interim coach for the national team after Portuguese gaffer Jose Peseiro left the role earlier this month.

The former Sporting Lisbon manager failed to reach a conclusive agreement with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) despite leading the team to the final of the AFCON.

Speaking on the Monday Night Football show, the former Monaco forward said:

“I am happy with what Finidi is doing with the Super Eagles. I am in the system and I know what he’s doing. Don’t forget that I am in the committee set up to do the right thing.

“From what I have seen from the players’ comments, it’s looking good for Finidi George.

“As I speak right now, I think it’s looking good for him. Mind you. I am not the decision-maker, I am one of the people who will advise the NFF. but it’s looking good for Finidi.”

Finidi George led the Super Eagles to beat Ghana 2-1 in a friendly on Friday, March 22 at the Stade de Grande in Marrakech, Morocco.

The 52-year-old former winger will be in charge of the team for the second time against Mali in another friendly at the same venue on Tuesday, March 26 (today).
