UCL draw: History makes Milan favourite against Napoli - Spalletti

Luciano Spalletti Luciano Spalletti

Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti believes AC Milan are the favourites ahead the all Italian quarterfinal clash in the UEFA Champions League.

The runaway Serie A leaders have been paired against the seven-time winners, Milan following Friday's quarterfinal draw.

The Italian tactician believes history will favour their Serie A rivals going into tie.

Spalletti added that he would have preferred not to meet any Serie A club at this stage of the competition.

“I preferred not to meet an Italian side,” the former Inter boss told Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“I’ve already heard some rumours going around and only the footballing incompetents talk about a good draw because Milan feel at home in the Champions League, they have won the competition seven times, second only to Real Madrid.”

“Needless to say that their director Paolo Maldini alone has won five. In the past few days, I’ve read that PSG and other teams like City are struggling to go all the way because they don’t have European experience. If what they write is true then we have to say that Milan are favourites in the Champions League. They knocked Tottenham out, not just any team.”

Serie A champions, Milan will welcome Napoli to the Guissepe Meanza San Siro on April 12 for the first leg.

The Naples-based side will hosts the seven-time winners at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on April 18 for the return fixture.
