Nigerian striker, Umar Sadiq could make his UEFA Champions League debut today (Wednesday, September 20) when Real Sociedad take on last season's finalists Inter Milan.

The La Liga side will kick off their 4th UEFA Champions League campaign against Nerrazzuri at home in what could be Sadiq's first ever appearance in the prestigious European club competition.

Sociedad finished 4th place in La Liga last season behind champions, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Athletico Madrid.

Sadiq, who missed a junk of last season to a career-threatening injury was excited at the prospect of competing in Europe.

While completing his recovery in June Sadiq took to social to express his delight after the team booked their place in the UCL.

“The season has finished and #wechampionsleaguelikethat,” Sadiq wrote on Instagram.

“It gives me great pride to be part of this team, I’ve been here for some months but it seems like I’ve been here for lots of years, thanks to my teammates for making it easy for me even if it’s not easy.

“Thanks to the medical staff and my coaches for being beside me during my rehab and putting a smile on my face when I was feeling worried.

“That is what makes me understand that LA REAL is a family. Y’all are so special and I hope next year will be more special. See you soon.”

Sadid has so far enjoyed just 107 minutes spanning across five games since his return from injury.

He is available for selection against Inter tonight.
