Atletico Madrid has ridiculed Barcelona and their prominent player, Lamine Yamal, following their triumph over Hansi Flick’s squad on Tuesday.
Atletico Madrid eliminated Barcelona from the Champions League, despite the away team securing a 2-1 victory.
The knockout tie was certainly not straightforward for Atlético Madrid.
After establishing a 2-0 lead at Camp Nou, they had to endure significant pressure to secure their spot in the UEFA Champions League semifinals at home against a Barcelona team that, at one stage, posed a serious threat to their advancement – yet ultimately, the outcome was quite different.
With this victory, Atletico Madrid’s manager, Diego Simeone, becomes the first coach to eliminate Barcelona from the Champions League on multiple occasions, having previously knocked them out in the quarterfinals in 2014, 2016, and now in 2026.
They took the opportunity to deliver a humorous message to the culés supporters through a viral meme shared on their official accounts.
The official Atlético Madrid account on X (Twitter) shared a video depicting a lion attempting to attack a crew, only for it to be revealed that the creature was not threatening at all – it was, in fact, a dog.
This served as a fitting metaphor for Barcelona: they initially appeared formidable, but ultimately proved to be completely ineffectual, left to bear the weight of their Champions League exit.
Now, Atlético Madrid is poised to learn who their semifinal opponent will be, with Arsenal currently holding a goal advantage in their tie against Sporting CP. In a potential Champions League final, they could face Paris Saint-Germain or the winner between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
