Head coach of Nigeria's U-17 Women's team, Bankole Olowookere believes his charges can cause an upset when they come against the United States of America in the quarterfinals of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in India.

The Flamingos will take on the USYNT-U17 on Friday, October 21 at the DY Patil Stadium for a place in the semi-finals.

Nigeria finished second in Group B with 6 points after recording a 2-1 defeat to Germany, a 4-0 win against New Zealand, and a 2-1 win against Chile.

The United States, on the other hand, finished first in Group A with 7 points after a 9-0 thrashing against host India, a one-all draw with Brazil, and a 4-0 defeat to Morocco.

Despite their blistering form and goal-scoring prowess, the Flamingos gaffer is confident that his side can overcome the USA to cement their place in the last four.

“I am going for the win, but I have to look at our loopholes and try to correct some of the things we are not doing right. By the time we are done with all these, we have what it takes to defeat the USA.” Olowookere told NFF TV as per PUNCH.

“The best we have ever gotten at the U-17 Women’s World Cup is the quarter-final stage, I’m here to create a lot of upsets and set new records.

“We need to work hard to get to the semi-final and set a new record for the U-17 team.”

Olowookere, however, acknowledged the United States as a powerhouse in women's football, hence the need to be cautious in his approach towards the game.

“We respect the USA team, they are a superpower in female football. I am watching them closely, they play well and score many goals. I have to be careful about playing them.
