Coach Olowookere Bankole has defended his decision to allow Comfort Folorunsho to take the seventh penalty during his team's defeat to Colombia on Wednesday, October 26.

Folorunsho missed her spot kick during the penalty shootout to squander the chances of Flamingos playing in the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The defender also missed her kick during the quarter-final match against the United States.

“Any player can score or miss a penalty, even our specialist lost and that’s part of the game.”

“The girls gave their all and I can’t ask for more. Even the best in the world do miss penalty. They gave everything and I’m proud of them.

After the semi-final defeat, Bankole will be hoping to get back to finish the tournament on high when they Germany on Sunday.

The Flamingos are looking to get their pound of flesh after losing their opening group game to the Germans, but Bankole has to get his girl backfiring quickly.

“The girls are down, and it’s normal after disappointment, but we’ll talk to and make sure they are for the third-place match.

“We can still get something out of the tournament.” He concluded.
