Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong was on parade as Watford beat Arsenal 4-2 in a friendly at the weekend.

The game which was played behind closed doors at the Gunners’ training ground in London Colney was part of the preparation for the league’s resumption.

Although the Gunners were missing some of their regular players, who are away at the World Cup in Qatar, Watford took full advantage and recorded a famous victory.

Both Troost-Ekong and his compatriot Tom Dele-Bashiru didn’t start the game, but they came on after the half-time break.

The Gunners drew the first blood in the 28th minute when Marquinhos curled into the far corner from the edge of the box.

The lead lasted only eight minutes as Watford grabbed the leveler through Karl Hein.

Eddie Nketiah powered home a header from Kieran Tierney’s inch-perfect cross to restore Arsenal’s lead going into the break.

Mikel Arteta then introduced Reuell Walters, Lino Sousa and 15-year-old Ethan Nwaneri, while Ekong and Tom Dele-Bashiru came on for Watford.

Watford however levelled again few minutes into the second half as Davis headed home Joseph Hungbo’s free kick.

Watford led for the first time just past the hour mark with Pedro setting up Asprilla, who cut inside before firing home into the top corner.

Pedro, in the 77th minute, scored the fourth goal for Watford. Arsenal will now fly to their training camp in Dubai, where they will compete in the Dubai Super Cup with AC Milan, Lyon and Liverpool.
