The President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shortlisted former Super Eagles captain Jay-Jay Okocha as part of his ministerial appointees, according to unconfirmed reports.

Okocha has been nominated for the position of Minister of Youth and Sports Development.

As per the reports, Okocha's name appeared alongside other political figures during the period of transition.

The nominees will go through a screening process before the preferred candidate will be chosen.

Many football fans believe the appointment of the Super Eagles legend as sports minister will be a step in the right direction.

If the reports are anything to go by, it will be the third time the former Bolton Wanderers captain will hold political office.

He served as the technical advisor of the youth and sports committee in his home state of Enugu from 2019 to 2023.

The 1994 Nations Cup champion also served as the chairman of the Delta State Football Association.

Okocha has also served in different capacities with both FIFA and CAF. He had previously declared his interest in becoming the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president.
