Nigeria clinched a crucial win against their bitter rivals, Ghana, marking their first victory since their defeat in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations last month.

Cyriel Dessers and Ademola Lookman found the net, securing a 2-1 triumph despite Jordan Ayew's late consolation goal.

Dessers expressed his delight at scoring and praised the team's approach to the game, highlighting a shift towards a more attacking style.

Under interim manager Finidi George, who took over from José Peseiro, the Super Eagles displayed a more aggressive and pressing gameplay, as opposed to the defensive tactics previously employed.

The victory against Ghana came as a morale booster for Nigeria, especially after their defeat in the final against Ivory Coast.

Despite conceding four goals in the tournament, the Super Eagles exhibited resilience, which has fueled hopes for a more assertive style of play moving forward.

Dessers, who marked his return to the team with a goal hailed Finidi George for adopting a more attacking approach during the game.

"Before the game, we had a meeting, and [Finidi] wanted us to press and be more aggressive, and I think we did that, especially in the first half. We did it very [well] and then you see, we got chances out of this, and it gives confidence to the team that we can attack more, create more chances, and that is a good thing. I think this is the way the Super Eagles should play," he said via Own Goal Nigeria.
