'This is a different challenge' – Southampton boss on why Onuachu is not getting game time

Southampton boss Ruben Selles has explained why Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu is not getting enough game time since joining the club.

The lanky striker joined the Saints on transfer deadline day in January but has since struggled to start games for the club.

The Super Eagles striker who was the top scorer in the Belgium Jupiler League with 16 goals before making his Premier League switch has started in only three games for the Saints.

After completing his 18 million euro move to the Premier League, the Saints fans were hopeful that Onuachu will use his goal-scoring prowess to help in their relegation fight, but it turns out not to be the case.

Southampton are currently stuck at rock bottom in the Premier League after 31 matches ahead of their next fixture against leaders Arsenal.

Speaking ahead of Friday's clash, Selles explained that playing in the Premier League is a different challenge to the other leagues.

“I don’t make my line-up or tactics to do with what anyone else thinks. We need to be competitive in the game until we can score the goal. It is not about one number nine. I understand that some players have scored goals in different environments, but this is a different challenge for all of us and all of them. So the solution is not to put one, two or three strikers [on the pitch], it’s about putting people in situations. This is not about one name.” he said, as quoted by Hampshirelive.
