Thiago Silva has made history as the oldest outfield player to ever feature for Chelsea in a competitive match.

The veteran Brazilian centre-back was part of the Blues' squad that suffered a 4-1 humiliation in the Premier League against Newcastle United.

The west Londoners went into the Saturday cracker off a 4-4 thrilling draw against reigning champions Manchester City before the international break.

However, they were unable to build on this result when they visited the Magpies, as they fell to a humiliating defeat.

According to Sky Sports, Alexander Isak opened the scoring for Newcastle inside 13 minutes of action before Raheem Sterling restored parity with a stunning free-kick 10 minutes later.

Jamaal Lascelles, Joelinton, and Anthony Gordon went on to find the back of the net in the second half to condemn the visitors to a comprehensive defeat.

Silva makes history

ESPN reports that Silva made history during the Newcastle tie as he became the club's oldest-ever outfield player at 39 years and 64 days old.

The Brazilian joined Chelsea in the summer of 2020 as a free agent following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain.

He has gone on to form an important part of the squad since his arrival, with the greatest highlight of his Stamford Bridge career coming in 2021 when they won the Champions League.
