Football fans have emerged with varying reactions to news that Harry Maguire is on the verge of joining West Ham from Manchester United.

Latest reports indicate the Hammers have agreed a deal in principle with United in a deal worth the region of £30m.

It is believed Maguire is willing to move to West London, and personal terms does not seem to be a problem.

As reported on The Athletic, West Ham are very optimistic of completing the deal, after seeing an initial £20m bid turned down in July.

Last season, Maguire fell down the pecking order at United, making just 16 appearances as the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof were favoured by Erik Ten Hag.

Things went from bad to worse when he was stripped off captaincy in the summer; a subtle indication that his future was in doubt.

If he seals the move, it would end his four-year tenure at Manchester United, a club he joined in the summer of 2019 for £80million from Leicester City.

Fan reaction
Immediately Fabrizio Romano broke the news that Maguire could potentially move to West Ham, fans took to social media to share their views on the potential transfer.

Rival fans could not help but dig at United for apparently “letting go of a club legend”, while United faithful were quick to welcome the move.

Here are some of the reactions:

@gadonpapa said: "But to be honest. Man U, didn’t treat maguire better. He deserved another chance"

@FCB_ACEE said: "Finally, this season we will never concede through Maguire’s mistakes." "Please don't sell him, We need him to help Onana this season."

@kofoworola__a joked: "I’m speaking for all United fans when I say we are making a big mistake for letting our captain and the greatest defender in the club history leave, ten hag will regret this."

@xperienceSnr said: "Did West Ham sporting directors watched the English Premier League games last season.. especially that of Manchester United? Even a two minutes video highlight at least. I swear a defender from their academy will do better. I hate Ten Hag is disrespecting a United Legend again."

"Manchester United should give Harry Maguire at least 1 season to prove himself, I believe he will be better than Vidic in due time."
