Popular sports journalist, Oma Akatugba has said that Nigerian goalie, Maduka Okoye will take his place in the Super Eagles when his time is right.

Akatugba made this known off the back of reports that Okoye will be loaned to join Serie A club, Udinese for the 2023/2024 football season.

Okoye has failed to break into the Watford setup since his move to the Premier League club last season.

Akatugba says Okoye must "focus on his club football".

He said: "He remains a huge talent and will take his place in the national team when the time comes but for now, the focus is on what is key, his club football."

23-year-old Okoye made only two appearances for the Hornets last season.

His arrival will increase the number of Nigerians at the club to three with Isaac Success and Kingsley Ehizibue already key members of the squad.

Watford and Udinese are owned by the same family.
