Former Super Eagles midfielder John Mikel Obi dropped a stellar performance against Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League final at the Allianz Arena to help Chelsea to their first European glory.

It was a performance many deemed as his best in the colours of the Blues.

While the Ivorian, Didier Drogba stole the headlines with his late equalizer and match-winner from the shootouts, John Mikel Obi was also a busy man on the night Chelsea made history in Munich.

With his well-timed tackles, well-placed passes, and timely interceptions, the Nigerian ensured that the Blues cruised to their first Champions League title against the Bavarian who were tipped as favourites in the build-up to the game.

Thomas Mueller's 83rd-minute strike was cancelled out by Didier Drogba's late header to force the game to extra time and eventually to the shootouts.

Chelsea won 4-3 in the shootouts courtesy of Drogba's final spot kick.

The former Super Eagles captain announced his retirement from professional football on Tuesday, September 27 at age 35.

He spent 11 years with the Blues winning 2 Premier League titles, 1 Champions League title, 3 FA Cups, 1 Europa League title, and 1 League Cup
