The prospects of a Super League were boosted on Thursday, December 21 after the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg ruled that FIFA and UEFA misused their dominance in shooting down the proposal.

A22, who are the proposed tournament’s organisers, have since announced new plans for the competitions, a move that was met by immediate resistance from nearly all big European clubs.

However, Italian side Napoli are reportedly open to joining the project, according to Agenzia Anza.

When the initial European Super League plans came to light 32 months ago, Napoli was among the clubs that rejected the proposal.

However, President Aurelio De Laurentiis, who is infamous for his spats with UEFA and FIFA, appears to have switched his stance and is now open to supporting the project.

On Thursday, ANSA wrote that De Laurentiis would “be ready to participate in a dialogue with other major European clubs to help build the project together.”

Football insider Fabrizio Romano also quoted the Napoli President, saying:

“I spoke to Florentino Pérez and we agree on meeting with other entrepreneurs to discuss about future plans”. “Football is being managed by old people with no vision.”
