Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo believes Nigeria would have qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar with former coach Gernot Rohr at the helm of affairs.

The Franco-Germain gaffer was sacked as Head Coach of the Super Eagles in December 2021 after five years in charge.

Former Super Eagles defender, Augustine Eguavoen was drafted in on an interim basis with few weeks to the 2021 Nations Cup in Cameroon.

Under Eguavoen's watch, the three-time African champions crashed out of the Nation's Cup at the last 16 after a flying start in the group stage.

He also failed to qualify the Super Eagles for the recently concluded FIFA World Cup after losing the ticket to arch-rivals Ghana in the double-header playoffs.

“Gernot would have qualified the team for the World Cup, the Al Hilal striker told Oma Akatugba in an exclusive interview on OMA SPORTS TV.

“He qualified us [Super Eagles] for the World Cup in Russia with two matches to spare. It was a wrong timing, they could have just allowed him to continue,” he added.

Augustine Eguavoen resigned from his role as interim coach for the Super Eagles following the World Cup disappointment.

Portuguese gaffer, Jose Peseiro was subsequently appointed by the NFF as substantive manager for the three-time African champions.
