Super Eagles gaffer, Chelle, takes talent hunt to Zamfara

As part of efforts to prioritise sports development in Zamfara State, Super Eagles Head Coach, Eric Sékou Chelle, on Wednesday, paid a courtesy visit to the state.

During the visit, Chelle met with the Governor of the State, Dauda Lawal, at the Government House, where they held extensive discussions on the revival and strengthening of sports development activities in the state.

As part of his inspection tour, the Super Eagles coach also visited the Zamfara State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, headed by the Commissioner, Alhaji Tasi’u Musa Shinkafi.

Speaking during the visit, Coach Chelle disclosed that his team was in Zamfara State to scout talented footballers under the age of 20 for opportunities to play professionally in European countries such as England, Spain, and Germany.

He explained that the initiative is aimed at boosting sports development and encouraging youth participation across the state.

The Super Eagles coach added that before the recruitment exercise, an U-20 Unity Cup competition would be organised as a prerequisite to assess the performance and potential of young footballers from different parts of Zamfara State.

According to him, outstanding players identified during the competition would be selected for further development and possible placement in European clubs.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Tasi’u Musa Shinkafi, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to identifying and nurturing young talents and providing them with opportunities to contribute meaningfully to sports development in Zamfara State and Nigeria at large.

Shinkafi commended the Super Eagles coach for considering Zamfara State as part of the young footballers’ selection process, describing the move as a vital step toward strengthening grassroots sports development and youth engagement.

Present during the visit were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Nasiru Galadima, the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Sports Council, Hassan Moh’d, as well as directors of the ministry.
