Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro jumps into Uzoho's defence

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has defended Francis Uzoho following his blunder against Algeria in the international friendly on Tuesday, September 27.

The poorly positioned 23-year-old goalkeeper failed to deal with a long-range strike from Algeria's Youcef Atal following a poor clearance from a corner kick.

Uzoho's mistake was all the North Americans needed to continue their good run against the Super Eagles with a 2-1 win.

It wasn't the first time a mistake from the Omonia Nicosia shot-stopper has caused the Super Eagles team.

Uzoho's failure to handle Thomas Partey's strike helped Ghana to snatch the World Cup ticket from Nigeria via the away goal rule during the playoffs in March.

Portuguese tactician Peseiro, however, has defended the Cyprus-based goalkeeper insisting that mistakes are part of the game.

“Anybody can make a mistake,” he told ESPN.

He, however, believes that the biggest mistake of the game was the disallowed goal from Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman.

“But the first big mistake was our second goal. We scored a clear goal and the referee said offside. It was not offside. Everybody can see it was no offside.”

Uzoho has conceded 26 goals in 26 caps for the Super Eagles. He has also recorded 9 clean sheets.
